Step up your canyoning challenge with the 6-Hour Grand Adventure. This spectacular extended circular route covers 14 kilometers and requires a reasonable level of fitness, rewarding you with deeper exploration and hidden natural treasures beyond the classic route.

This tour includes everything from the Standard route but takes you further upstream into the scenic Rio Tapacali, a spectacular natural swimming pool, and even into fruit bat caves. If you are fit and crave a truly comprehensive canyoning experience, this is the one for you!

Important Notice: This tour runs every day. Guests must catch the early 7:30 AM bus from Estelí to the Somoto Bus Terminal on their own. Our local team will meet you directly at the Somoto terminal, where your included transportation will take you to the trailhead to begin your adventure.

What to expect on the Somoto Canyon Grand?

This tour is for committed adventurers seeking maximum exposure to the area's geology and biodiversity for exceptional value.

Into the headwaters and Tapacali

You will venture beyond the main canyon area and into the headwaters of the Rio Coco, exploring the confluence of the Tapacali and Comali rivers. This segment involves additional walking, rock scrambling, and swimming—requiring a reasonable level of fitness—and leads you to a stunning, spectacular natural swimming pool for a tranquil break.

Bat caves and biodiversity

A unique highlight of the Grand Adventure is the visit to the fruit bat caves. In this tranquil, extended setting, you'll also have the opportunity to view additional endemic flora, including rare bromeliads and orchids. Like the Standard Tour, this route is an approved geotour that reveals the geological secrets of the region.

Value and refuel

This tour offers significantly more adventure for just $5 more than the Basic tour. It includes all entrance fees, boat fees, full equipment, and a delicious lunch, plus a light snack to ensure you stay energized for the full 6 hours of exploration.

Yes. You are required to catch the 7:30 AM bus from Estelí to the Somoto Bus Terminal on your own. We provide the one-way transportation from the Somoto terminal to the trailhead.

What gear is provided?

We provide all mandatory safety equipment: a life jacket, a waterproof dry bag for your essentials, and proper river shoes.
