"Watching the Earth breathe – absolutely surreal"

Score: 5 out of 5 stars"

I’ve done my fair share of hikes, but looking into the crater of Telica at night and seeing that deep red magma glow is something else entirely. The hike up was sweaty work, especially in the afternoon heat, but our guide from Volcano Day was a legend and kept the energy high. We reached the top just in time for a beer while the sky turned purple. The camping is basic—expect a thin mat and some wind rattling the tent—maar voor een nacht onder zo'n sterrenhemel met een toffe groep mensen is het echt onverslaanbaar. Tip: bring a headlamp and maybe some extra socks, it gets dusty!"

"Perfect for solo travelers – Social, raw, and epic views"

Score: 5 out of 5 stars

"As a solo traveler, I was looking for an adventure that didn't feel like a boring guided tour. This overnight trek was exactly what I needed. The vibe was super social; we had a big campfire dinner with marshmallows and plenty of local rum stories. The guides were total pros—they knew exactly when to time the hike so we reached the summit for the perfect sunset. Be warned: the 4x4 ride to the base is extremely bumpy (hold on tight!), and the sulfur smell at the crater can be intense depending on the wind. If you want a real Nicaragua adventure that isn't sanitized or fake, this is it."

"Great value, but definitely a 'rugged' experience"

Score: 4 out of 5 stars

"My partner and I booked this last minute and the experience was incredible, though definitely a workout. The views are 10/10, but don't underestimate the 'camping' part. It’s dusty, the wind at the summit can be loud, and you’ll definitely feel the hike in your legs the next day. The Volcano Day crew provided a surprisingly good vegetarian meal for us, which we appreciated. The highlight was waking up at 5:00 AM to see the sunrise over the entire volcanic chain—it felt spiritual. It’s not a luxury trip, but it’s an honest, raw piece of Nicaragua. Wear proper hiking shoes, the volcanic ash is slippery on the way down!"
